Amigas del Señor
Amigas del Señor Monasterio Metodista is a Methodist Monastery for women in Limón, Colón, Honduras. Founded in 2006, there are currently two sisters: Sister Confianza (Prairie Cutting), a member of Hermiston First UMC, and Sister Alegría (Beth Blodgett), member of Oak Grove UMC near Portland.
Called to live as poor among the poor, our daily life is built around morning, afternoon, and evening prayer times and consists of the physical work of life in the country such as cutting firewood, washing laundry by hand, cooking on the woodfire stove, and gardening. Once each week we volunteer at the Centro de Salud (Public Health Clinic) in Limón, where Sister Alegría (a pediatrician) sees patients and Confianza runs the pharmacy. We also have a ministry reading and selling El Aposento Alto (The Upper Room) meditation booklets on buses when we travel. We are influenced by Methodist and Quaker spirituality as well as traditional monasticism, and have a Covenant of Caring with Multnomah Monthly Meeting of Friends (Quakers) in Portland, OR.
We welcome women to join us for a year, or for a 2 or 3 month spiritual formation program. Please see our webpage at www.oakgroveunitedmethodist.com/amigasdelsenor for more information.
Since our time at the internet is limited, the best way to contact us is by mail. It takes about 4 weeks for letters to reach us and costs $1.15 (global airmail) cents for a one-ounce letter (as of 2015). Write to us at:
