Schleppy No More!
Some days I just feel schleppy. There are times when I don’t want to put on nice clothes, throw a little make-up on, or for heaven’s sake – wear any shoe that has a heel.
And, that’s OK. Because on most days, I do want to express an outer and inner attitude expressing to myself and others that what I am doing is important. In his book, “Maximize: How to Develop Extravagant Givers in Your Church,” Nelson Searcy writes about going for a consultation with a church that had stalled in its growth. He looked at their bulletin and its content with the eyes of a visitor. And he found one thing: there was no offering envelope included.
Suggestion #1: Include an offering envelope each and every Sunday.
Giving is a spiritual discipline and you want to let people know the value you place on it. However, this is no time for sloppiness.
Suggestion #2: Make sure your offering envelope conveys the message that “this is important”…because it is!
I have seen offering envelopes that are frankly, embarrassing to look at. The ink is smudged, it’s printed on the diagonal, and the design looks like it was last updated in 1986. Have your envelopes professionally printed. Make sure they look great. Up your game.
This should be your mantra: No schleppy offering envelopes! Give God (and your congregation) your best.
