The Oregon-Idaho Conference is seeking a half-time Communications Associate to work in the Conference Office in Portland, Oregon. The Communications Associate will work in collaboration with the Director of Communications and other conference staff and volunteers to tell the story of The United Methodist Church in the Conference and the world. They will work to provide information and resources to local churches, working together for the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
The associate will prepare stories of activity in United Methodist churches and conference ministries for dissemination on the conference website, email blasts, blog posts, and social media. This includes researching, interviewing, writing, and finding and/or crafting images and other visual elements to go along with written materials. They will edit and proofread the work of others for posting to the website and online.

Creative thinking, effective storytelling, and seeing differing points of view will be great skills for this position.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • A deep understanding of websites, content management systems (CMS), social media and group email and other online tools.
  • Experienced with graphics software for editing photographs and graphics
  • They must be excellent communicators, able to organize and plan during crisis/urgent situations.
  • They must have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • They need to be excellent verbal communicators to work with other staff and volunteers on messaging and interviews.
  • Knowledge of The United Methodist Church and Wordpress, are a plus.

Salary Range: $19-22 / hour, depending on experience and education
