Vancouver First United Methodist Church is seeking a part-time Director of Music Ministries. The Director of Music Ministries is a spiritual and organizational leader who oversees the music programs of Vancouver First UMC. This includes but is not limited to leading our community worship; implementation of the church’s vision, mission, and strategy in the worship area; working with the senior pastor to craft themes and ensure an intentional flow through elements of the worship experience; training and nurturing team members while working with various groups throughout the church to use music for worship; ensuring each worship service is led in such a way that the congregation has an opportunity for an authentic encounter with God’s presence. QUALIFICATIONS • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him. • Experience in leading worship, vocalists, and musicians. • Sense a calling to serve in this kind of ministry role and ability to clearly articulate that calling to others. • Track record of success as a team builder. • Experience as a leader and recruiter of volunteers in all areas of Music Ministry in a church with multiple worship services with nurturing talent in multiple age groups. • Experience in leading worship that transcends modern, contemporary and traditional genres. • Minimum of 2 years of worship leadership experience or qualified degree. RESPONSIBILITIES • Develop a vision with the Senior Pastor for the music ministries at Vancouver First UMC. • Plan the worship service in consultation with the Senior Pastor and laity. • Build and nurture the necessary teams (choir, praise band, bell choir) to carry out the worship areas of Vancouver First UMC. • Direct all weekly activities and rehearsals as necessary, to include the choir and praise band. • Recruit members to form a bell choir. • Bring in guest musicians from within the church or outside the church community. • Set annual goals for the worship ministry which are in line with our Vision and Mission. • Lead in some form of spiritual formation at every rehearsal. • Supervise and collaborate with organist/keyboardist. • Support and oversee the children’s choir director. • Maintain and expand music library within annual budget. • Work with audio visual production team to ensure quality worship experience. • Identify potential and new ways to enlarge and improve music program. • Be open to change and the shifting of responsibilities as growth and ministry develop. ABILITIES • Relational skills and an enthusiastic presence for leading worship. • Skilled in the use of technology in worship and in the use of sound, lighting, computers, and video projection. • Ability to work with Chord Charts, Choral Octavos, and Guitar Tabs. • Ability to incorporate other art forms as needed. • Commitment to ongoing personal & professional growth. • Fully support the mission, vision, and worship philosophy of Vancouver First UMC. • Must have strong organizational skills. • Must have strong vocal skills. • Must have strong motivational skills. SALARY (ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFITS AS SPECIFIED IN PERSONNEL POLICIES) $27,000 annual compensation based on qualifications. Anticipated 20 hours per week to include rehearsals, recruitment, and administrative duties.
