Position: Nursery Care Attendant (Infant – Kindergarten) Position Objectives: To create a caring and loving environment for the youngest of Trinity United Methodist Church (TUMC) on Sunday mornings and other times of congregational worship. Our mission as a church is to form disciples of Jesus Christ as we gather in love, grow in faith, and go out in hope to transform the world. In the nursery, the primary focus will be to gather the children in love and provide hospitality to the parents/guardians of those children. General Qualifications: • Childcare providers must be reliable, cheerful, and have a friendly nature • Physical Requirements o Be able to lift up to 25lbs o Be able to stand for up to 2 hours o Be able to crouch, kneel, and occasionally bend and twist o Reasonable accommodation can be provided for people with disabilities. Accommodation with be assessed on a case by case basis. • Childcare Providers are required to have child and infant CPR and First Aid Training. Training may be done within the first 3 months after employment at the employees’ expense. • All childcare providers shall pass background checks performed by TUMC Responsibilities: • Be prepared to welcome child and parent with hospitality by creating a clean, decluttered space • Develop a relationship of trust and continuity with the children and parents/guardians • Warmly welcome adults and children as they arrive making introductions as necessary; o Request adults of new children to fill out a visitor form and file the completed form o Discuss allergies of children and verify child may have planned snack for the morning o Keep records on individual children, such as sign in sheets, parents contact information, information about allergies, etc. • Read to children and teach them age appropriate simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs • Promote conditions that will encourage each child’s positive development of positive self-images. i.e. promote sharing and taking turns, use positive language about what is appropriate, desirable behavior, rather than what is inappropriate. • Engage children in children’s play activities • Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games • Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas • Change diapers in a safe environment as needed • Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts • Sort and sanitize toys and equipment and remove anything inappropriate weekly Required: • Ability to work with other staff including nursery volunteers and children’s faith formation instructor • Comfortable working in a faith based environment • Knowledge of TUMC Safe Sanctuary (abuse prevention) Policy • Responsible for maintaining monthly time card and turning it in on time • Attend Quarterly all-staff meetings Hours and Pay • Sunday Morning o Regular Schedule: 9:15am – 11:45am o Summer Schedule: 10:15am – 11:45am • Other Required work days (church holidays): o Ash Wednesday Worship o Maundy Thursday o Easter Vigil worship o Christmas Eve worship • Current compensation rate: $10/hr o All training and staff meetings are considered paid time.
