The Vancouver First United Methodist Church is seeking to fill our Organist/Keyboardist position. The Organist/Keyboardist provides the inspiring and excellent musical support for congregational hymns, choir anthems, praise band and any special music needed in worship. This position also is the rehearsal accompanist for the Chancel Choir. RESPONSIBILITIES • Accompanying the choir for anthems and praise team when needed, which includes o Working with the Music Director during practice o Ability to read choral score and play parts when necessary • Playing organ or piano for all congregational hymns, which include o Having an appropriate understanding of how the song is to be sung best and to aid in the congregation’s ability to sing it o Work with Music Director to select songs that might fit the sermons • Play prelude, postludes, offertory, and background music when necessary in the service o Whenever possible the music should match the theme of the pastor’s message o Music should be inspirational and well played o Suggest music or musical arrangements/groups to compliment worship o Responsible for providing music at memorials and weddings or secure a suitable replacement if they are not available • Must have a good understanding of Royal pipe organ and know how to use all of the stops and the electronics • Schedule and supervise regular maintenance on pianos and organ • All music is expected to be well prepared and performed with superior skill and musicianship PRIMARY OBJECTIVES • Use music to create a space that is inspirational, exciting and sacred, and will open people’s hearts to the rest of the worship experience • Work as a team player with the Music Director, choir, praise band, other musicians and worship leaders, and with the pastor • Use musical skills and heart for worship to raise the quality of worship every Sunday The position is year-round. Providing accompaniment during practice is essential for the job. The organist/keyboardist will receive four paid Sundays off per year beginning after their one year anniversary. They will locate their substitute and let them know what is expected for the Sunday they are absent. SALARY (ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFITS AS SPECIFIED IN PERSONNEL POLICIES) $8,500 annual compensation based on qualifications.
