Marjorie Knotts widow of Pastor J. Ross Knotts died August 5, 2014.  She is survived by her daughter; Alice Knotts; son Joseph Knotts; and two granddaughters.
 
Reverend and Mrs. Knotts served the Odell Pine Grove, Portland: St. Johns, Bend, Ashland, Springfield: Ebbert, Shady Grove St. Luke, Upper Rogue, Medford First Associate, Medford First and Medford  United Methodist Church in the Oregon – Idaho Annual Conference. He retired in 1978.
 
A memorial service will be held Sunday August 10, 2014, at Rogue Valley Manor Auditorium, 1200 Mira Mar Ave., Medford, OR, (541) 857-7214 at 1:00 p.m.
 
In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the “Knott’s Family Campership Fund” and sent to Camp Latgawa at 13250 S. Fork Little Butte Creek Road, Eagle Point, OR  97524.

Reverend and Mrs. Nelson served Littleton Colorado United Methodist Church in the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference; Pratum, Sherwood, Medford First Associate, Myrtle Point, Roseburg Associate/Dillard/Winston, Roseburg Associate/Dillard Tenmile, Baker/Haines, Hood River and Coquille charges in the
Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He retired in 1996.

Reverend and Mrs. Hand served the Coden-Irvington-Heron Bay, Mount Vernon, Livingston and Citronelle charges in the Alabama-West Florida Annual Conference; and a Professor at Willamette University in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He retired in 1990.

Reverend Virginia and Dwight Curtis served San Jose Rose Lawn in the California-Nevada Conference; Salem First, Junction City and West Portland in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. She retired in 1987.
 
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. June 19, 2014 at Touchmark Retirement Community, 2911 SE Village Loop, Vancouver, WA.

Retired pastor Delbert Rice died May 8, 2014.  He is survived by his children, Harold Rice, Alfred (Al) Rice, Eugene (Gene) Rice, Tim Rice and Flora Joy; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Esther Rice.
 
Reverend Rice served Sodaville/Salem, Florence and Kinton in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He also served as a Missionary to the Philippines with The General Board of Global Ministries. He retired in 1996.
 
A memorial service will be held in the Philippines on May 13, 2014.

Pastor Wright was a British Methodist and joined a pastoral exchange program and served Jerome and Boise: Whitney in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He retired in 1994.
 
A memorial service will be held in England on May 20, 2014.

Reverend Venable served Colorado Springs: First, Salida, Salt Lake City: Christ, Denver: Washington Park and Littleton: First in the Rocky Mountain Conference; Boise: First and Hillsboro in the Oregon – Idaho Conference. He retired in 1993.

Reverend Walker served Mounds, Tulsa-Bethel, La Moille in the Oklahoma Conference; Washougal, Vancouver: East, Bellingham: Garden Street, Richland: Central in the Pacific Northwest Conference; Lake Oswego, Central District Superintendent and Boise First United Methodist in the Oregon – Idaho Conference. Joe also served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army and at The General Board of Global Ministry and General Board of Discipleship. He retired in 1990.
 
A memorial service will be held in mid-May and he will be buried at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference for Liberia Scholarships.

He retired in 1987.

Bishop Jack Marvin Tuell
November 14, 1923 - January 10, 2014

Bishop Jack M. Tuell, retired Bishop, pastor and beloved spouse of Marjorie Beadles Tuell, died on January 10, 2014. He is survived by Marji at: 816 S. 216th St #637, Des Moines, WA 98198. He is also survived by their three children: Jacqueline T. Joday of Chippewa Falls, WI; Cynthia D. Tuell of Upland, CA; and James Knowles-Tuell of Delmar, New York.

Ordained in the PNW Conference, Reverend Jack and Marji Tuell served the Pacific Northwest Conference at Everett: Grace; Tacoma: Lakewood; as Puget Sound District Superintendent; and Vancouver: First. In 1972, Rev. Jack Tuell was elected Bishop and assigned to the Portland Episcopal Area from 1972 - 1980, followed by the Los Angeles Episcopal Area from 1980-1992. He retired in 1992 after many years of service.

There will be two services to celebrate the life and ministry of Bishop Jack M. Tuell:

  • Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in the Wesley Terrace Auditorium, located on the campus of Wesley Homes, 816 South 216th St., Des Moines, WA 98198. Parking will be available in the far back parking lot of the Conference Center, located behind the Terrace Building on the north side of 216th Street.

Lois Richards, widow of retired pastor Herbert Richards, died August 20, 2013.  She is survived by her sons Fredrick, Mark and Herbert; daughters Robyn and Marcey.

 

Pastor and Mrs. Richards served Grove UMC in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and Basking Ridge UMC in the Northern New Jersey Conference. Reverend Richards also served as Associate Professor at Drew University. After moving west they served Boise: First; Eugene: First and Tabor Heights in the Oregon-Idaho Conference, before retiring in 1985.

Pastor and Mrs. Enz served Dallas/Oak Grove Chapel, Cottage Grove, Oregon City, Roseburg, Tigard, Gresham, Central District Superintendent in the Oregon-Idaho Conference, before retiring in 1984. He also served as a consultant on Congregational Development & Redevelopment in retirement.

Nevitt Smith, retired pastor, died December 14, 2012.  He is survived by his son, Brenton Smith; daughter, Ellen Ledoux,; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Nevitt was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly, and wife, Beverly.

Pastor Smith served Turner, Salem W. Summit, Medford First, Sellwood, Tigard, Forest Grove, Salem: Jason Lee, Rogue Valley and Ashland United Methodist Churches in the Oregon-Idaho Conference, before retiring in 1991.

 

The Memorial Service of Word and Table for the life of the Rev. Nevitt B. Smith will be Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2pm at First United Methodist of Ashland (175 N. Main St.). 

 Nevitt wanted this invitation to especially include his clergy sisters and brothers, and that they process into the worship service in their vestments.

Reverend Bob and Cleo Burtner served Eugene Trinity, Rose City Park and Corvallis churches in the Oregon – Idaho Conference. Reverend Burtner also served as District Superintendent of the Salem and Southern Districts. He retired in 1992.

Donferd “Glen” Hughes
January 20, 1929 – December 1, 2011

Glen Hughes, retired pastor, died December 1, 2011. He is survived by his wife Marcia, daughters, Robbie Stillwell and Glenna Hughes; son, Mike Hughes; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Mark, wife Roberta and wife Sheryn.

Glen served Clarks, Monroe/Alsea, Grants Pass, Cave Junction/Wilderville and Myrtle Point in the Oregon-Idaho Conference, before retiring in 1987.

A memorial was held Friday December 16, 2011.

November 12, 1916 – September 17, 2011

Retired Reverend Henry Haines died on Saturday, September 17, 2011. He was 94 years old. Henry is survived by his children, Bruce and Craig Haines; step-children Emily, Glen and Barbara; grandchildren, Carin, Laura, Erin and Callie; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Nathan and Rosemary.

Reverend Haines served churches in the Pacific Northwest Conference before coming to the Oregon-Idaho Conference in 1951. Reverend Haines was appointed to Idaho Falls, Salem First and Lake Oswego churches. He also served as District Superintendent in the Portland West District and Metropolitan District before retiring in 1979.

A service will be held Saturday October 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Willamette View, 12705 SE River Road, Portland, OR (503) 654-6581, in the Willamette View Terrace Auditorium.

This is to notify you of the death of Betty Morris on Friday, March 25, 2011. Betty was the wife of the Rev. Herbert E. Morris who served in the Greater New Jersey and Minnesota Conferences. Here they served Portland Centenary, Oak Grove, Twin Falls, Albany and Canby before retiring in 1987.

In addition to her husband, Herbert, Betty is survived by three children, Mary Morris Jones, John Morris and Ruth Morris Villaverde; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and siblings William McFarlane, Mary Pitcock, Barbara Staton and Robert McFarlane.

A private service was held Monday March 21st at the Remond United Methodist Church. A memorial will be held at Dallas United Methodist Church later in the spring.

Curty is survived by her husband Nick; four children, Janice McLemore, Larry Nichols, Kent Nichols and Brian Nichols; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cyrus Albertson who was a member of the Oregon-Idaho Conference and served as a Chaplain US Navy Reserve also Ferndale, Hillsboro, Salem First and Gresham churches. He was District Superintendent from 1964-1970 before retiring in 1985.
