Synopsis of Position: The District Administrative Assistant is a 30 hour a week position that is responsible for supporting the ministry and mission of the District Superintendent of the Columbia District, which includes some 50 churches in the Portland area and along the Columbia River Gorge.
The skills that are important to this position include, but are not limited to: a working knowledge of the United Methodist Church, an ability to meet and converse with the public—especially on the telephone and by email, computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Publisher and Adobe systems, the ability to work independently and “self-start,” filing and office organization skills, a basic understanding of the principles of bookkeeping, the ability to work collegially with others, and an ability to compose a district newsletter and other essential correspondence. Duties and responsibilities include: answering the telephone at the district office, managing email correspondence, scheduling district events, preparing and editing the district newsletter, filing and other secretarial duties, bookkeeping for the district, and maintaining the district/conference database.
