Lake Oswego United Methodist Church Position Description Position Title: Status: Finance Manager Non-Exempt Reports To: Senior Pastor FTE: .25 (10 hours/week) Revision Date: February 2021 General Description: Lake Oswego United Methodist Church (LOUMC) position descriptions are guidelines. They are not intended to identify every task that an employee will be asked to complete. Statement of Inclusivity: · We affirm that all individuals are of sacred worth, without exception · We commit ourselves to be in ministry for and with all persons, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic condition, marital status or abilities · We welcome all persons who seek God’s love through Jesus Christ and who desire to journey together toward greater understanding and mutual respect General Function: Under the general supervision of the Senior Pastor, the Finance Manager is responsible for the day to day bookkeeping and financial reporting for LOUMC in addition to acting in an advisory capacity, as requested by the LOUMC Finance committee. The Finance Manager will coordinate with, and provide reporting to, the Finance Committee, Church Council, Trustees, and SPRC. In addition, the Finance Manager will be responsible for forming and maintaining effective working relationships with the congregation, members of the community that are involved with LOUMC, and with other LOUMC staff. This position works in the LOUMC office. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Bookkeeping of income and expenses; fund disbursement for approved general expenses, pass-through or investment accounts, and monthly payments to Conference Treasurer. · Reconcile bank, credit card, and investment account statements. · Prepare annual budget under the direction of the Finance Committee. · Prepare monthly reports for Finance Committee, Church Council, Trustees, 2020VISION Committee and Annual Charge Conference. · Maintain accurate separation of, and proper dispersals for, designated funds. · Conduct transactions to liquefy stock donations. · Attend all Finance Committee meetings, taking and distributing minutes of these meetings. · Prepare documentation for annual audit of church financial records. · Maintain personnel files and process new employee hires and terminations. · Perform monthly payroll functions and prepare end-of-year tax documents. · Maintain financial policy and procedures provided by the finance committee subject to GAAP, UPMIFA, and government regulations, along with conference and general church policies. · Actively participate to support positive growth and change; suggest, help develop and execute, as a team, changes within LOUMC that support the growth and re-visioning of the church, its staff and its congregants; communicate in a manner that clearly supports the direction of the church as a whole and not the view of single individuals. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: ? Demonstrate proficiency and aptitude in financial management and strong knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures. ? Demonstrate experience and extensive knowledge of QuickBooks Online and MS Office. ? Perform all responsibilities with a minimum of supervision. ? Demonstrate ability to adjust to varying work needs. ? Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality; exercise discretion and sensitivity when dealing with confidential church and personnel matters. Core Value Requirements: ? Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (preferably in accounting or business); or, ? Minimum of 3 years’ bookkeeping and/or financial reporting experience; preferably in a non-profit or church setting. Other Requirements: Personal transportation is required allowing for the ability to work at LOUMC’s offices. Personal transportation for church operations is not a requirement of this position. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment, at community events, and/or at other locations as deemed necessary. This position may require occasional early morning, weekend or evening work. Position requires ability to sit for extended periods as well as stand occasionally. Position requires use of computer, telephone, fax machine, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs. The position is based in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
