Lake Oswego United Methodist Church Position Description Position Title: Preschool Director Status: Exempt Reports to: South Shore Early Learning Center Board of Directors FTE: 1.0 (40 hours/week) Revision Date: March 2021 General Description: Lake Oswego United Methodist Church (LOUMC) position descriptions are guidelines. They are not intended to identify every task that an employee will be asked to complete. They are intended as a general outline of the essential work responsibilities and qualifications of the position. General Function: Under the general supervision of the Lake Oswego United Methodist Church, the Director will provide leadership, direction and supervision of the South Shore Early Learning Center (SSELC). The Center is open to children of all spiritual backgrounds and provides an appropriate learning experience for children 3 and 4 years of age on date of admission. The goal of the Center is to provide an environment where each child can develop his or her physical, emotional, mental and social capabilities to his or her full potential, with an emphasis on cognitive development and communication skills but equally important is having fun. Working collaboratively with the LOUMC Church Council, Pastor, Center parents (and other Church Staff, Committees and the Congregation), the Director leads the Center Staff in operating the Center, fosters Center Staff development, and carries out the Center’s mission. The Director reports to the SSELC Board of Directors and receives a written performance review from the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) on an annual basis. This position will be working in the South Shore Early Learning Center located within the Lake Oswego United Methodist Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Maintain, develop, or modify curriculum to meet the needs of children enrolled in the Early Learning Center and remain current with developments in the field. · In conjunction with SSELC Board of Directors, define policies of admission, attendance, tuition and educational goals and establish all other necessary policies procedures or rules pertaining to the operation of the Early Learning Center. · Teach in the classroom until such time as enrollment grows enough to hire the first full time Teacher. · Arrange for Substitute help for the to cover when a Teacher or Assistant is unable to work but also serve as a Substitute as needed. · Hire, train, and supervise the Teachers and Assistants in administering, planning and evaluating activities and lesson plans that promote developmentally appropriate learning. · Hold monthly staff meetings, mediating minor disagreements, while leading the enhancements and corrections needed. · Regularly monitor staff performance and provide coaching or mentoring for performance improvement and development. · Conduct Staff performance evaluations in conjunction with the SPRC Liaison and SSELC Board of Directors for submission to the LOUMC Church Council. · Conduct Parent/Teacher Conferences. · Develop long term plans to facilitate the growth of the South Shore Early Learning Center (SSELC). Administration: · Ensure compliance with licensing requirements of the Early Learning Division of the Oregon Department of Education, and all other applicable county, state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Serve as the primary point of contact with all governmental and regulatory bodies in connection with the Center. · Plan and implement health and safety programs including universal health precautions, emergency procedures, and facility and equipment safety. · Manage all aspects of student admissions including timely enrollment to maximize capacity. · Keep and maintain full and complete records pertaining to the administration and operation of the Early Learning Center. · Work with the LOUMC Finance Committee to prepare an annual budget for approval by the Church Council. · Operate SSELC within the approved budget, including collection of enrollment fees and tuition, purchase of routine equipment and supplies, and handling of routine banking transactions in accordance with established LOUMC financial policies and procedures. · Develop a strong rapport with the LOUMC Church Council, Pastor, the Church Staff (and Church Committees, as applicable) by attending planned and ad hoc meetings (as required), presenting monthly reports to the Church Council on Early Learning Center operations (to include budgetary information), and responding to requests for information in a timely manner. · Communicate effectively with SSELC parents and staff, prospective families, and the LOUMC Congregation in order to promote understanding and support of the Early Learning Center. Encourage feedback regarding programs and activities. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: · Demonstrate a professional demeanor with the ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone, email or text. · Demonstrate proficiency with verbal and written communications. · Demonstrate proficiency using office equipment and computer software. · Demonstrate proficiency working with volunteers. · Perform all responsibilities with a minimum of supervision. · Demonstrate ability to adjust to varying work needs. · Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality; exercise discretion and sensitivity when dealing with confidential matters. Education and Experience Requirements: · Prior Preschool Director Experience is a must with experience with opening a new operation preferred. · B.A. in early childhood education or related field and at least 2 years of teaching experience in an early learning center. · Child CPR Certification. Other Requirements: Personal transportation is required allowing for the ability to work at LOUMC. The United Methodist Safe Sanctuaries (child and venerable adult protection) training is also required. Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment and/or at other locations as deemed necessary. This position may require occasional early morning, weekend or evening work. Position requires ability to sit and stand for extended periods. Position requires use of computer, telephone, fax machine, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs.
