Director of Christian Education and Community Life Job Description
First United Methodist Church Eugene (EFUMC)
Salary Range= $43,00-49,000 annually + Benefits

Full Time Position:
.50 focus on children, youth and family programming.
.50 focus on community life within the congregation
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Christian Education or Education experience preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree
- A spiritually mature Christian with a strong sense of calling to children, youth, and family ministry
- Grounded in social justice-oriented theology
- Supportive of the LGBTQ+ community
- Competency in computer skills and social media
- Demonstrates competency and experience in developing a culture of inclusion with individuals of diverse identities, experiences and backgrounds
-Ability to be a visionary and an action-oriented leader in pursuit of our EFUMC goals
- Working knowledge of child development and youth culture
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proven planning, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to organize, mobilize and train volunteers to build community
- Creative thinker, open to new ideas
- Strong attention to detail

Christian Education Responsibilities:
-Embrace and implement the EFUMC vision for growth and community building in the Children, Youth & Families programs
-Select, adapt and/or lead a birth-12th grade progressive Christian curriculum, including summer programming, activity nights and field trips
-Willing to be trained and to collaboratively teach the OWL (Our Whole Lives faith and human sexuality) curriculum and/or Confirmation on a regular but flexible rotation.
-Promote our engagement with conference and district youth events, including camping ministries and service projects
-Organize regular music experiences with children and youth in collaboration with the music staff
Community Life Responsibilities/Goals:
-Focus on building connections between generations in our church community
-Encourage informal friendship groups within the church community to reach out to include others so that we truly welcome all
-With the Pastor oversee and/or coordinate Adult Christian education and formation groups
-Collaborate with JAMM to coordinate volunteer service
-Demonstrate genuine hospitality by strategically recruiting, engaging and following up with local families including non-religious and nominally religious people
-Assist in the organization and planning of special worship services (Easter, Christmas, summer worship at the park)
-Greet and connect with visiting families and adult visitors in worship and at special services
-Develop EFUMC information materials for visitors and develop procedures for following up with them
-Produce content for monthly newsletter, weekly Family News emails, website and social media platforms for family programs
Supervision and Management Requirements:
-Regularly meet with the pastor and other EFUMC committee leaders to discuss and collaborate on our EFUMC goals
-Attend Covenant Council meetings regularly and report on Christian Education and Community Life ministries
-Reports to and is supervised by the pastor and SPRC
-Recruit, mentor, train and supervise children’s and youth Sunday school teachers and volunteers
-Ensure that all volunteers adhere to the Safe Sanctuary policy in all EFUMC activities and spaces
-Maintain all Safe Sanctuary and Background check records
-Responsible for requesting and overseeing budgetary needs related to the Christian Education/Community Life program
