The theme of the 2018 Columbia & Cascadia District UMW Spiritual Retreat is Forgiveness.

Our Retreat Leader is Rev. Debbie Pitney, retired clergy, a dynamic and interesting speaker who will lead us through the sometimes-difficult question of forgiveness!

In Matthew 18 we read, “At that point Peter got up the nerve to ask, ‘Master, how many times do I forgive a brother or sister who hurts me?  Seven?”  Jesus replied, ‘Seven!  Hardly.  Try seventy times seven.’”

If we are to forgive four hundred and ninety we just might lose count.  During our time together, we will begin to explore the path of forgiveness in our own lives and discover that while forgiveness is never easy, it matters.  We will begin to look at what forgiveness is and what forgiveness isn’t.  We live in confusing maybe even desperate times and I believe that learning to forgive over and over again, might help us heal some of the brokenness of our world.

Borrowing the words of Desmond Tutu, “The quality of human life on the planet is nothing more than the sum total of our daily interactions.  Forgiveness is the way we mend tears in the social fabric.  It is the way we stop our human community from unraveling.”

Alton L. Collins Retreat Center is handicapped accessible.  Lunch is included, and most dietary needs can be accommodated.
