The first harvest is in at Bethlehem House of Bread

The first harvest is in at Bethlehem House of Bread and word is getting out quickly. In February 2013, Metzger UMC and Tigard UMC voted to merge into one church with two campuses. The Metzger campus has become the home for a new ministry called Bethlehem House of Bread. Bethlehem’s mission is to feed those who are hungry in body or spirit. Since the merger we are often asked, “So what’s happening at Bethlehem now?” The merger was to officially take place on July 1st , but things actually ...

Churches Invited to Showcase a Ministry

Marilyn Zeigler and Jan Rogers love children. And they love to sew. So it was a natural project for them and other members of the Lake Oswego United Methodist Church (LOUMC) Craft Group to make rag dolls for hurting children. Since 2004, nearly 6,000 “Rag Dolls 2 Love” made at LOUMC have been sent to agencies all over the world for distribution to children who are victims of war, natural disasters, orphaned or infected by HIV/AIDS. The history of the ministry is at www.ragdolls2love.org . They...

UMVIM Volunteers Rebuild in Yukon

When the Yukon River in Alaska flooded behind an ice dam in late May, over 1,200 miles of the river flooded many small and remote villages. Galena, about 200 miles west- northwest of Fairbanks was one of the largest, with about 500 permanent residents and 230 boarding school students. With all but a very few homes damaged, some extensively, connections to the outside world by only barge and air, and extreme winter weather conditions, Galena needed help quickly. Undie Sunday Response Overwhelming!

Undie Sunday Report from United Methodist Women’s president Dixie Jacky: The Undie Sunday Drive was an overwhelming success! You can't imagine the "undie" stories that took place. We were "undie-dated," the UMW's were the "undie-takers," "DROP YOUR UNDIES here" signs were posted, and more than one pastor was shocked to have a UMW ask them if he/she remembered their "undies."  The churches of the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference donated hundreds and hundreds of pounds of every conceivable type ...

The church’s Living Lent planning team thought it would be a good idea to do the peace cranes with their partner school, Jackson Elementary. In the church’s ongoing relationship with Jackson Elementary they have contributed school supplies, provided 100 ...

An Amazing Resurrection Story

4/4/2013
There was lots of laughing Easter Sunday at “The Four Churches” service. Life is good, and the Resurrection is real. 200 people, toddlers to elders, gathered at Tillamook UMC to worship together--Congregationists, Episcopalians, Lutherans, and United Methodists, singing their hearts out, celebrating the new thing God is creating among them. It wasn’t so joyful a few years ago. All four congregations (St. John’s United Church of Christ, St Albans Episcopal Church, St Peter’s Lutheran Church, ...

Methodists and Lutherans Work Together in Hood River County

2/28/2013
A partnership of necessity has become a focus of ministry for the United Methodist and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregations in Hood River, Oregon. Responding to shrinking congregations and the expenses of leadership, the congregations of Asbury United Methodist and Our Redeemer Lutheran churches began meeting together in March of 2011, rotating between the two church buildings.
