KICK OUT THE ELF and REFILL THE SHELF

1/5/2015

KICK OUT THE ELF and REFILL THE SHELF Food Drive

Last month was a very busy time for our food banks. So many families were fed through the generous giving of others! Now that the elf’s off the shelf, let’s refill it with food!

During the month of January, please bring your non-perishable food items to your United Methodist Church. Remember – when we feed the hungry, it’s Jesus Christ we feed. Can you find an extra jar of peanut butter or can of tuna? Can your family fast for one meal to feed others? We can spread God’s grace and share our blessings!

THE CONGREGATION DONATING THE MOST POUNDS OF FOOD WILL BE FEEDING THE HUNGRY AND REWARDED WITH A FABULOUS PRIZE!

Churches – prior to donating, please weigh food donations and keep a running total. Individuals do not need to weigh each item - the food will be weighed in groups prior to delivery to the food bank. Wondering how to weigh packaged food? Send a note to marycfoote@yahoo.com for a simple method. (Spoiler alert – bathroom scale.) Prior to Feb. 8, 2015, send your church name and total pounds donated to marycfoote@yahoo.com. The OR-ID UM congregation donating the largest amount of food in pounds will be announced in The Connector and receive DELICIOUS, homemade cookies for coffee hour provided by the Conference Lay Leader, Mary Foote.

What if folks would like to donate money? Great! The Food Pantry at Jefferson UMC is able to purchase food through the Linn Benton Food Share for .15 per pound. We might not all have access to such a resource but let’s use .15 per pound to convert dollar donations. Here’s an example – Janica donates $25.00 (thanks, Janica!) to the food drive. That $25.00 equals 167 pounds (round up) of food! When we work together, our resources can stretch!

Questions? Please contact Mary at marycfoote@yahoo.com. We can make a difference to the men, women, and children facing hunger in our communities. May God bless our efforts!

Let’s get those shelves filled!
