Conference hires new staff accountant

Though Sara Goetze may be new to the Oregon-Idaho Conference office as the staff accountant, she is by no means new to the Oregon-Idaho Conference.

As a 9-year-old, Goetze became a PK (preacher’s kid) when her mom married her stepfather, now retired, Rev. Gary Powell. Growing up in Portland and then Eugene, Goetze was a longtime participant and volunteer at Camp Magruder.

“The church has always been a big part of my life and I just wanted to expand my skills,” said Goetze of her application for this position.

She started with the Conference on April 1.

After graduating from high school in Eugene, Goetze earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry and religious studies from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. She returned to Portland and spent three years working for Intel in chip manufacturing and she also coached high school cheerleading.

But she wasn’t done learning and moved to Salem to earn her master’s of business administration degree from Willamette University.17

“I decided I really wanted more education and it seemed like a business degree would be good to add to my arsenal,” she said.

After spending a couple of years working for United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley, Goetze applied for the staff accountant position at the Conference office.

She works in the finance office, managed by Treasurer, Rev. Dan Wilson-Fey, along with Sandra Reinemer, David Sneed and Meg Kau.

“I really like working with everyone here,” Goetze said. “We get a lot of work done and we have fun doing it.”
