UMW starts 80-day Abundant Health journey around the world
United Methodist Women are encouraging all in the Oregon-Idaho Conference to journey with them across the globe for the next 76 days. It’s only going to be a 24,000-mile journey.
On Monday, UMW started its own fitness campaign for Abundant Health, encouraging folks to get miles and miles of exercise in each day over the following 80 days up until Annual Conference.
Their fitness journey started in Astoria and will make its way across the globe to important and historic United Methodist Women sites and get them back to Astoria before Annual Conference starts in Boise on June 13.
“We see physical health as being an expression of theology,” said Becky Warren, UMW president for the Oregon-Idaho Conference.
So far nine people have signed up on their website to participate and have combined all their workout steps miles – be it Zumba, walking, running or biking. As of Tuesday – one day after beginning this collective workout journey – the group of nine was halfway to Portland.
Abundant Health is an initiative of the General Board of Global Ministries, working to bring better health to people in every place. The four focus areas are: active living, healthy eating/nutrition, mental health and drug and tobacco prevention.
Track your mileage by posting information to the Oregon-Idaho United Methodist Women Facebook page or email janelle@busyhands.biz. Sharing photos of these workouts is also encouraged.
