Reverend Thomas “Tom” Truby died on Monday, March 16, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Laura and two children: Angela and Aaron. He is also survived by two grandchildren.
 
Reverend Truby served Bradshaw-Lushton UMC in the Nebraska Conference and Bath, Climax and Mendon UMCs in the West Michigan Conference. He was appointed to the specialized ministry of pastoral counseling at the Samaritan Counseling Center of Benton Harbor/St. Joseph in the Northern Illinois Conference and Counseling Ministries in the West Michigan Conference. He served Clarkes and Willamette UMCs in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He retired in 2019 and was serving at Clarkes UMC when he died.
 
The congregation at Clarkes UMC has placed their Easter flower cross out in front of the church (18773 S Windy City Road, Mulino, OR 97042) in memory of Tom and are encouraging people to come by as they can to place flowers and then send photos to Laura. A memorial service will be held be held sometime in the future.

A. Boyd Jeffery, spouse of retired pastor Rev. Gay Jeffery, died on March 13, 2020.  Boyd is survived by his wife, Gay; children, Kirk, Carl and Keith; and five grandchildren.
 
Rev. Jeffery served at the Caldwell, Wilder, Buhl and Blackfoot: Jason Lee Memorial UMCs in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. She retired in 2013.

Ernest “Ernie” Stoppel, surviving spouse of pastor Jeanie Y. Stoppel, died on March 5, 2020.  Ernie is survived by his sons and their wives: Paul (Cathy) and Tracy (Cathy) and their grandsons: Jeff and Jordan.
 
Pastor Stoppel served at the Reedsport, Vale and Cherry Park Churches in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. She retired in 2001.

Rev. Groves served at Sutherlin-Wilbur in the Oregon-Idaho Conference and at Chugiak, Fairbanks and Anchorage First in the Alaska Conference.

Reverend John “Jack” Powers served at Omaha: Ames Ave.-Asbury UMC in the Nebraska Conference; then served Portland: Cherry Park, The Dalles, Coos Bay, and Monmouth: Christ UMCs in the Oregon – Idaho Conference. He retired in 1987.

Pastor Davey M. Lefler died on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the age of 66, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Lefler, and three sons: Chad, Robert, and Joseph. He is also survived by ten grandchildren.

Pastor Lefler served the Kirkwood and Altona UMCs in the Illinois-Great Rivers Annual Conference. He served at Shelley, Aberdeen, American Falls, and Chubbuck UMCs in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference.

Letha Remaley, surviving spouse of Rev. Delbert Remaley, died December 12, 2019. Letha is survived by her children, Paula, Wes, Philip and Sue, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.  
 
Reverend Delbert Remaley served churches in North Arkansas and Pennsylvania Conferences; and at Kimberly, Murtaugh, Tillamook, Bay City, Blackfoot, Shelley, Payette and Gooding in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He retired in 1985.
 
A memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11:00 A.M at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. A private Graveside will be held prior to the services at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Twin Falls. (208) 735-0011.

Rev. James H. Smith died on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at age 100. He is survived by his daughter, RoxAnne Jetine Smith, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, B. June Smith, and two sons, Roger and Bryan.

Rev. Smith served Rosbury UMC in Kansas West Annual Conference; Waldwick Circuit in Wisconsin Annual Conference; Willamina/Grand Ronde, Lake Oswego, Portland: Patton Central, Portland: Rose City Park Associate, Idaho Falls: St. Pauls, Oregon City, and Bennett Chapel UMCs in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He retired in 1985.

A memorial service will be held at a yet-to-be-determined time and place in January.

Jeanne C. Hunnex Hall, surviving spouse of Rev. Myron (Mike) Hall, died November 17, 2019, in Salem, OR. Jeanne is survived by three children, Diane Dorsch, James Hunnex, and Richard Hunnex; and three step-children, Lenore Hall, Lark Hall, and April Hall Cutting, along with 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hall, who died in 1997, and stepson Scott Hall who died in September this year.

After her marriage to Reverend Hall in 1975, Rev. Hall served the Mid-Willamette Council of Governments as a Health and Aging Planner, Jefferson-EMO Director of Legislative and Government Affairs, and as pastor at Eugene: Wesley and West Salem UMCs in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He retired in 1985.

A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

Milner E. Stubbs, surviving spouse of Rev. Edward J. Stubbs, died November 15, 2019. Milner is survived by her three children, David Stubbs, Steven Stubbs and Annie VanNatta; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Stubbs, who died in 1984.

 

Reverend Stubbs served North Powder-Haines, Weiser-Huntington, Aberdeen-American Falls, Gooding and Odell-Pine Grove in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He retired in 1982.

Yowko Ichioka Richardson, surviving spouse of Rev. Austin Harper Richardson, died November 4, 2019. Yowko had no children, and is survived by her brother, Victor Ichioka, brother Eddie, and a sister, Pat. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Richardson, who died in 2012, and a brother, Yuji.

Reverend Austin served St. Charles Stockton in the Minnesota Conference; Hathaway in the East Ohio Conference; Yakima Wesley in the Pacific Northwest Conference; Coos Bay, Portland: Centenary- Wilbur, Eugene: Asbury, Salem: Jason Lee and Portland: Laurelwood in the Oregon-Idaho Conference before retiring in 1988.

Retired Pastor, Reverend Carol J. Thompson, died on September 11, 2019 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Carol is survived by her daughter, Alysia Downs. She had 1 grandson, Weston.  

Reverend Thompson served at the Nooksack Indian UMC in the Pacific Northwest Conference.  She served at Monroe, Lyons, New Meadows, Filer/Jerome, and Florence UMCs in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. She served as Executive Director of the Western Small Church and Rural Life Center in Filer, Idaho, and was on the faculty of the Northwest House of Theological Studies in Salem, OR. She served as Executive Director for Town and Country Ministries of the General Board of Global Ministries in New York. Carol retired in 2013.

Private family services will be held in Hawaii. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held in Oregon sometime next spring; details at a later date.

Michael “Skip” Matthews, spouse of pastor Kathy Matthews, died on August 12, 2019.  He is survived by his wife, Pastor Kathy Matthews, their children, David and Sheri, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  

Pastor Kathy Matthews has been serving Warrenton UMC in the Oregon-Idaho Conference.

A short memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, at 4:30 p.m. at the Columbia River viewing dock at the end of Sixth Street in Astoria, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Skip’s memory to Oregon Dachshund Rescue in Portland, Oregon.

Mary Margaret Turner, mother of Reverend Marshall Wattman-Turner, and surviving spouse of Reverend G. Wesley “Wes” Turner, died on Friday, August 9, 2019.  Margaret is survived by her 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
 
Rev. Wattman-Turner is currently serving as the Abundant Health Coordinator for the Oregon-Idaho Conference.  Rev. Wes Turner, who died in 2000, served at Tuscola in the Northwest Texas Conference and as a chaplain in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He served Salem: Leslie UMC, Lebanon, Grants Pass UMC and Silverton UMC in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He retired in 1969.
 
A memorial service is being planned for October at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 14700 SE Rupert Drive, Oak Grove, OR 97262, where Margaret had been a member and active in United Methodist Women since 2001.

Reverend William Edward Hare died on August 9, 2019.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Retired Pastor Mary Ellen Hare and is survived by their children; Melinda Hare, James Hare and Kevin Hare. He had 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  
 
Reverend Hare served at Crescent-Marshall, Grace, Pawnee-Skedee, and Tulsa-St. Paul UMCs in Oklahoma; and at Lakeview-Paisley, Jerome, Dillard-Winston, Camas Valley, Tenmile, and Amity-McCabe UMCs in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He retired in 1994.

A committal service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point, OR 97524.

Reverend Hanson served at Warrenton, Sheridan, John Day/Prairie City and Sutherlin/Wilber in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He retired in 2004.

Retired Pastor, Rev. Elliot Leroy Nichols died on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in Belmont Terrace in Bremerton, WA. He is preceded in death by his wife Clarissa Marcella Lynch Nichols and is survived by his daughter, Janice McLemore of Silverdale, WA; son, Larry Nichols of Seattle, WA; son Kent Nichols of Whidbey Island, WA; son Brian Nichols of Snohomish, WA; 5 grandsons, 10 great grandchildren.
 
Reverend Nichols served at Elgin-Cove in the Oregon-Idaho Conference from 1982-1987. He retired in 1988.
 
There will be a brief honor guard service at Mt. Tahoma Veterans Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042 on August 2, 2019 at 2 p.m. where he will be interred.

Retired Pastor, Rev. Keith Wise died on June 14, 2019 in Pendleton, Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Jean Wise; sister, Sherlyn Gregg; former wife, Patricia Wise; two sons, Michael (Karyn) Wise, and Matthew (Irene) Wise, and two daughters, Kathleen Edic, and Kristin (Gary) Wolf.  Stepsons are Randy (Lynn) Dunn and Dan Dunn.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.

Reverend Wise served Bellegrove UMC in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference; Wiconisco-Loyalton UMC in Susquehanna Conference; Clarksboro UMC in Greater New Jersey Conference; Homer and North Pole/New Hope United Methodist -Presbyterian, Alaska Missionary Conference; LaGrande & Rupert UMCs in Oregon-Idaho Conference. Rev. Wise retired in 2005.

Dorothy E. Wood, surviving spouse of Reverend John Wood, died on May 24, 2019 in Pendleton, OR.   Dorothy is survived by her children; David, Heather and Alfred. She is predeceased by her son, Keith.
 

Reverend John Wood served at Kentucky, Barbourville Circuit; Trial, Oregon, Portland: Garden Home; Myrtle point; Corvallis Assoc; Myrle Creek-Canyonville-Days Creek; Kimberly-Murtaugh; and most recently at Pendleton in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He retired in 1993.

Nancy E. White, wife of retired pastor, Rev. Boone L. White, died on March 22, 2019.   Nancy is survived by her husband, Boone; children, Kristyn Rock, Amy Emmett, Tracy Allen, Wendy White and Ross White; and four grandchildren. 

Rev. White and Nancy served at Salem: Morningside, La Grande: First, Oregon City, Idaho Falls: Trinity, and most recently at Lake Oswego UMC in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. They also served at Anchorage: First UMC in the Alaska Missionary Conference. Rev. White retired in 1992.

There will be two memorial services: one will be held on Sunday, April 14th at 2:00 pm at Lake Oswego United Methodist Church, 1855 Southshore Blvd., Lake Oswego, OR 97034; and the other one on Friday, April 26th at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Wesley Homes at Lea Hill, 32049 109th Place SE, Auburn, WA 98092.
 
Memorial gifts in Nancy’s memory may be given to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

She is predeceased by her daughter, Rev. Elizabeth Boerl.

Lorenz “Lefty” M. Schultz, Jr.                                September 17, 1937 – February 24, 2019
                        
 
Reverend Lorenz “Lefty” Myron Schultz died on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the age of 81, in Albany, Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Schultz, daughter Kiri, and daughter-in-law Martha, the surviving spouse of his son, Kevin, who predeceased him. He is also survived by several stepchildren through his wife Barbara, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Reverend Schultz served in campus ministry at San Francisco State University and California State at Chico, and at Sierra Vista, Fresno, in the California-Nevada Annual Conference. He served at Portland: Errol Heights and Hughes Memorial, Grants Pass: Newman, Idaho Falls: Trinity, Eugene: Wesley and Forest Grove in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He retired in 2001. He and Barbara made their church home most recently at Albany UMC.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Albany First United Methodist Church, 1115 28th Ave. SW, Albany, OR 97321. (541) 928-3505

Retired Pastor Mary Ellen Hare, died on February 21, 2019.   Mary is survived by her husband, retired pastor, Reverend William Hare, and their children; Melinda Hare, James Hare and Kevin Hare. She had 4  grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. 
 
Pastor Hare served at Wendell, Dillard-Winston/Camas Valley/Tenmile, and most recently at Talent in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. She retired in 1994.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 11 at 3:00 pm at Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point, OR 97524.

Retired pastor Earl W. Riddle died on December 15, 2018, in Portland, Oregon.   Earl was 98; his wife, “Kitty,” preceded him in death in 2011. Rev. Riddle is survived by his children, Marty Moretty, Jan (and John) Switzer, and Dave (and Kirsti) Riddle.  He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Earl was affiliated with First United Methodist Church in Portland. 

Reverend Riddle served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy, as campus minister at the Wesley Foundation in Corvallis, OR; and as pastor to Forest Grove, Twin Falls, Caldwell United Methodist Churches in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. He also served as the Oregon Conference Program Director, Oregon-Idaho Conference Council Director, and as the OR-ID Conference Council on Ministries Director. He retired in 1985.

Retired pastor Robert “Bob” G. Kingsbury, died on December 3, 2018, in Eugene, Oregon.   Bob was 90 and is survived by his wife, Shirley Kingsbury, of Eugene, Oregon, his four children, Kathy Kingsbury, Anne Bennett, Tony Kingsbury, and Grace Ruddy. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Bob and Shirley were affiliated with First United Methodist Church in Eugene. 

Reverend Kingsbury served United Methodist Churches in Cave Junction, Wilderville, Astoria, Newberg, and Rainier/Clatskanie in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. He served as campus minister at the Wesley Foundations in both Corvallis (Oregon State University) and Eugene (University of Oregon). Rev. Kingsbury also served the World Student Christian Federation (Liberia) with the Methodist Board of Missions. He retired in 1993.

Rev. David Glenn White died November 9, 2018. He is survived by his spouse, Mary Ellen, and children Karen Hollingsworth, Sandra Wagner, Dena Hornback, and Steven White. 
 
Rev. White served at Deep Creek and Moses Lake UMCs in Pacific Northwest Annual Conference, and at Sodaville, Salem: First, Labish Center Community, Carus, Gooding, Veneta, Arlington/Wasco in Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference, and for Children’s Services Division for the State of Oregon.

Janet B. Coe, the surviving spouse of Rev. Wendell L. Coe, died on October 20, 2018, at her home in Mill Valley, California.   Janet was 101 and is survived by her children, Harold Coe of Portland, Oregon, Sam Coe of Seattle, Washington, Martha Parker of Mill Valley, California, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.  Janet and Wendell were also active members of Christ Church, Portland before she moved to Mill Valley, CA in 1992 after Wendell died.
 
Her ashes will be interred alongside those of Wendell at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Portland.  Service arrangements are pending.

Pastor and Mrs. Garrabrandt served Twin Falls, Jerome and Cottage Grove in the Oregon Idaho Annual Conference. Pastor Garrabrandt retired in 1982.

Pastor Luginbill served as a Missionary in the Alaska Conference; Gold Hill Upper Rogue, Sweet Home and Boise: Collister in the Oregon-Idaho Conference. She retired in 1994.
 
A memorial service will be held in the future.

Michael Meriwether                                 June 24, 1934 – September 8, 2017
                         
Mike Meriwether, husband of retired Pastor Penny Christianson, died September 8, 2017. He is survived by his wife Penny.
 
Pastor and Mr. Meriwether served Bay City, St. Helens, Yamhill, Gresham, Tualatin and Sherwood in the Oregon Idaho Annual Conference.  Pastor Christianson retired in 2012.
 
A celebration of life for Mike Meriwether will be held Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. followed by an all church potluck at 1:00 p.m. at Tualatin United Methodist Church, 20200 SW Martinazzi Avenue, Tualatin, OR. 503-692-1820

Dorothy Thomas                                     May 9, 1924 – July 20, 2017
                         
Dorothy Thomas, widow of retired Pastor Warren Thomas, died July 20, 2017. She is survived by her son John Thomas and daughter Lisa Mariko Phillips; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
 
Pastor and Mrs. Thomas served Echo, Sellwood, Ashland, Ashland/Talent and McMinnville in the Oregon Idaho Annual Conference; he also served as a Missionary in Hawaii with the Pacific Southwest Conference. Pastor Thomas retired in 1986.
 
A celebration of life for Dorothy Thomas will be held August 13th at Ashland United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main Street, Ashland, OR. (541) 482-3647.
